Comminution throughput has a very high impact on mine site productivity, and up-front capital expenditure for comminution equipment, such as the semi-autogenous grinding mill (SAG) and ball mills. A randomised experimental design was developed to simulate laboratory levels of experimental control for a full-scale comminution equipment trial. By randomising the experimental design, throughput for the new equipment could be isolated from nuisance variables, such as; rock variability, weather, and operating technique.
